Unley-based Studio S2 Architects are celebrating winning the Wine Tourism category in the Australian Wine Industry Impact Awards.

Daniel and Amy Smedley were recognised for their innovative cellar door and wine tourism designs forclients, including Wirra Wirra Vineyards. “From when we first met at the University of Adelaide Architecture Department, almost 20 years ago, Daniel and I decided that we would take a focus on tourism and architecture as our two shared passions,” Amy says.

Their dedication to the tourism industry is reflected in their designs.

“We specialise in tourism because we love it – we live and breathe tourism and we have insight into the industry because we spend so much time digging around behind the scenes,” she says.

“We dream of helping tourism businesses climb the success ladder by designing buildings that speak to people and help build relationships with the brand, grow the commercial viability of a business through clever commercialisation, and put them ‘on the map’ as an unmissable tourism destination.”

The couple also love where they live. “Unley is a little oasis,” Amy says. “Commercial enough to have all the facilities I need at my fingertips, community-focussed enough that I can walk my kids to school and greet everyone I pass, so green that I never feel stuck in an office and central enough that we can service clients from McLaren Vale to the Barossa and beyond.”
